Onsemi (Nasdaq: ON), a leader in smart power and smart sensing technologies, today announced a new 10BASE-T1S Ethernet controller designed to provide reliable multipoint communications in industrial environments . NCN26010 simplifies installation, achieves greater data throughput, and implements more than 40 nodes on a single twisted pair, which exceeds five times the number of nodes required by the IEEE 802.3cg standard, reducing installation costs and setting complexity.

For in-cabinet cabling, the NCN26010 reduces cabling by up to 70% while significantly increasing bandwidth. In a backplane, it simplifies layout and power distribution without compromising data rate or latency. With this new component, many applications such as elevators will be able to increase data throughput on existing wiring. Thanks to the ability to transmit power over data cables, complex sensor networks can be constructed with simple and low-cost cable laying.

"The NCN26010 enables larger networks of multi-drop connections, reducing the total number of networks for large installations," said Michel De Mey, Vice President of ON Semiconductor's Industrial Solutions Division. The controller is smaller and easier to integrate.”

The new controller realizes the multi-station connection communication 10BASE-T1S (802.3cg) Ethernet network, effectively replacing the traditional point-to-point and multi-point on the same bus (multi-point) industrial communication standards. T1S MAC/PHY can replace standards such as RS-485, CAN, RS-232 and HART. As a result, greater data throughput is achieved over existing wiring without the need for rewiring, saving the largest expenditure in network installations.

Single-pair Ethernet installations based on the controller reduce the amount, size and cost of wiring, while the multi-drop function enables multiple nodes such as sensors to be connected to a single twisted pair. The NCN26010 also includes a unique enhanced noise immunity feature, which is critical for installations in electrically noisy industrial environments.

In addition, the NCN26010 has lower capacitance on the line pins than existing T1S solutions, enabling more nodes to be implemented on a single network. Since the communication with NCN26010 can be done via SPI, the number of pins is less and the package size is smaller. The NCN26010 is the industry's first PHY+MAC controller supporting 10BASE-T1S, enabling connection to controllers, sensors, and other components without the need for an external MAC.
